Bringing Blooms Back to American Soil
If you read our story then you know that the vision of Backroad Blooms all began after I had stumbled across some facts about imported flowers in America.

If you happened to miss reading about the crazy amount of money the US spends on flowers that bloom on the other side of the world, find that dollar amount here.

I wanted to be able to use this platform to educate for a quick minute, so bear with me as I unravel the intricate journey those grocery store blossoms take before they adorn your home and celebrations.
A 4,000 mile flower delivery - sounds pretty crazy when you say it like that, but just about every time you pick up flowers from the grocery store, that's exactly what it is. A 4,000 mile delivery of a perishable product. Flowers that bloomed on the other side of the world are then sprayed with chemicals to help keep them "fresh". Put on a boat or an airplane to take them overseas, then into the back of a truck to be delivered to the store. Picked from the garden DAYS ago, you finally find them while shopping about and bring them home to enjoy them.

Let's compare that to your locally grown and sourced flowers, especially from small flower farms like Backroad Blooms. When you come to pick up a bouquet, or purchase them in store, they were harvested from the garden less than 24 hours prior. This shorter transportation means that the flowers are harvested closer to their peak freshness, use less (or zero) chemicals to help make them appear so, and will arrive at your table in a more vibrant and lovely state. Since local flowers do not need to travel internationally after harvest, customers can enjoy a broader selection of seasonal blooms that you may not otherwise see in store bought bouquets. It is also a more environmentally friendly option by supporting sustainable farming practices and eliminating long-distance transportation.

So how can you be a part of the Dirt Road Dream?

The easiest way is by opting out of the next grocery store bouquet you pass and replacing it with one of ours or other locally sourced blooms. We promise that after you experience the unparalleled freshness that comes from our fields, you will want to tell your friends and family all about it. Any purchase you make here is a huge help, but also, don't be scared to reach out to us with any questions you may have about starting your own garden, whether it be vegetables or flowers - we are here to help! Find us on social media where we share a lot of the process that goes into growing. We love meeting you and chatting with you so don't hesitate to shoot us a message at any time. Let's grow together!

As always, thanks for supporting our little Dirt Road Dream.
